Thankfully, many leading data providers make it relatively easy to stay current by providing release calendars or other tools to keep us informed. Below are release schedules and other tools available from the three major data providers in the U.S. that can keep users informed on data releases:
The place to start with the BLS is the Release Calendar on their website. On this same page, if you scroll down, there is an option to “Subscribe to the BLS Online Calendar.” By following the instructions provided, you can add a BLS Calendar to your Outlook (or other email/scheduling programs) that automatically populates with data release dates.
The BEA’s Current Releases provides a list of the latest releases broken down by geography and industry along with a list of general releases. On the right-hand side of the Current Releases page there are options to access the News Release Schedule and News Release Archives.
On the News Release Schedule page there is the option to download the current year’s releases in a PDF and the option to subscribe to the online updates calendar just like on the BLS site.
The Census Bureau has many options for staying current on data releases. You can choose the option(s) which best suits your needs.
Newsroom – The Newsroom is the one-stop location for all releases and is the source of the links I’m going to mention below. If in doubt, start here.
Release Schedule – The release schedule is an interactive calendar that allows you to search, print, and export updates.
Subscription Request – This is an email subscription service that will send you notices the day data is released. When you sign up, you can choose the topics you want to be notified about.
Tip Sheets – Tip sheets are released every two weeks with a brief explanation of upcoming releases and the data they will supply.
Releases – Releases are a section underneath the main Newsroom page which provides the actual press releases that have gone out on a number of different topics. Even better, on the right side of this page, there is the option to narrow press releases according to subject.
